ABOUT THE PARTNERS?

Our Digital City is a joint project between:

Birmingham City Council

Birmingham City Council (BCC) is home to one of the largest metropolitan councils in Europe with a workforce of 55,000, serving a culturally diverse and vibrant population in excess of one million people.

BCC has established consultative working partnerships with some of the leading players throughout the technology arena within the UK and across the globe.

Digital Birmingham

In 2006, Birmingham City Council established the Digital Birmingham partnership to drive forward the city's programme to become a leading digital city in 2010. The partnership, which comprises more than 40 external organisations including BBC, Cisco, Microsoft, Vodaphone and BT, seeks to influence digital investment and infrastructure development, and broadband uptake across the city to generate economic growth, close the digital divide and improve quality of life.

Birmingham City Council Arts Team (Environment & Culture)

Birmingham City Council’s Arts Team facilitates digital participation through Hello Digital and Say Hello initiatives which consist of digital media events in the Midlands enabling participants to explore the modern world and open doors to new possibilities.

Hello Digital combines inspirational industry events with a year-long programme of activities and showcases under the Say Hello banner, to encourage and enable the widest possible audience to engage with digital content and technologies.
Say Hello focuses on breaking new ground for participatory work around digital media with a programme of projects and events for 2010 delivered by Maverick Television and Fierce!

For more information on Hello Digital and Say Hello visit www.hellodigital.net, and look out for a number of events and activities during Birmingham’s Digital Week, from 18-22 October 2010 with events which will open up the debate on the impact of technologies across the broadest cross section of industries providing the platform to share and extrapolate digital best practice, ideas and opportunities on an international level.

Birmingham Library Services

As well as on line access, it is hoped that Our 2010 Digital Snapshot will have an ongoing physical accessible presence in the new Library of Birmingham for communities, businesses and individual citizens to keep clicking on the content and create blogs, twitters, comments around the site as well as generating school and community projects inspired by your content.

Birmingham Library Services will be managing the biggest library in Great Britain when the new building is completed in 2013. They are redefining libraries and archives for major city centres and intend to make the library more of an experience where their role will be less about transactions with users and more about aiding their transformation
